A Romantic Echo
This spectacular and romantic mid-18th century church is built in the 'Gothick’ style.
It has two towers and sits in the landscaped grounds of Hartwell House, now a luxurious country hotel.
Henry Keene designed the church for Sir William Lee. It is octagonal with east and west towers, and is thought to echo the chapter house at York Minster.
Although thieves, vandals and the elements have done their worst to the interior, its restored shell is still a romantic sight in the 18th century landscape of the park.
